Walk for Clean and Living Water
I am excited to Walk for Water! Every day millions of people have to walk miles and miles just for water. Most of the time, the water they can find is contaminated and makes them sick. I am excited because Water Mission is changing lives, one community at a time, through their sustainable and safe water solutions.
Each dollar raised by this event is going to make an impact through a safe water community development project.
Water Missions is based in Charleston, SC. They are a Christian engineering company that brings water filtration systems to communities all over the world. Water Missions trains the local community to understand and maintain the filtration systems. The community is responsible for helping Water Missions with the units, and the water is not free. The price is small, and there are options for those who are unable to pay it. The money earned goes into a joint account (between Water Missions and the community) and is used to pay the community members who maintain the filtration system and to buy replacement parts as they are needed.
I was able to tour the facility here in Charleston and learn more about their mission. In addition to providing the filtration system, Water Missions educates the community about sanitation. Some are reluctant to drink the filtered water because it does not make them feel as full as the dirty water did. They have to be taught about what makes the water dirty and how it makes them sick.
In addition to all of this, Water Missions shares the Gospel. Their evangelism is subtle compared to many organizations because they begin by sharing the love of God. They tell the community that there is a God who loves them and wants them to have clean water. After building a relationship with the community they are able to share more.
I hope you will support this incredible organization that is committed to providing both clean and living water to people around the world.
The walk itself is 3.5 miles starting at Riverfront Park, 9 am on March 21, 2020. Participants will have the opportunity to carry an empty bucket to a water source, collect dirty water, pour it into a filtration system, and drink the clean water.
Thank you so much for your support and I hope you will walk with us!
