Welcome to My Personal Page. Betsy Cooke
I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ghana, West Africa. Twice, I got typhoid from our “treated” water. When that water wasn’t flowing, I had to get awful, filthy water from a cistern about a mile a way. The water was green, full of bugs and trash. Believe me, I literally boiled the life out of that water and strained it through a dish towel. No cheese cloth available. Fortunately I had a bicycle and was able to hang my bucket from the handle and walk the bike. I didn’t have two buckets, so I couldn’t balance on the bike. My student and other teachers carried the buckets on their heads! I wasn’t that talented, lol!
As I said, I only had one bucket. I had to use it to drink and cook with. Then I’d wash myself with it, then wash my clothes, then flush my toilet. Then I had to make the water walk again... I’m am walking for water, one more time, in hopes that others won’t have to...
