Why We Walk

2.2 billion people around the world lack access to safe water. That's one-third of the world's population.

Everyday, millions of women and children in developing countries walk an average of 3.5 miles (5.6 km) to retrieve water for their family's daily needs. In most cases, even after walking for miles and miles, the water they have to drink is contaminated.

We walk to simulate the trek and stand in solidarity with those who must take it. We walk to bring awareness of the situation. As a result, more people will understand the challenges they face.

The Need for Safe Water

Water is the world's most basic resource. It has the power to give life—and take it. But there is hope. We believe that we can end the global water crisis in our lifetime. With the help of supporters and partners Water Mission has served more than 5,000,000 people in 56 countries with lasting safe water solutions.
